40,000 mile variable service, price ok ?

Featured Replies

Hi, just need a pass this one by you folks. My Octy is due for its 40,000 mile service (its actually on 45,000 due free servicing etc) I called my usual dealer and they quoted £246.80 for the service plus £50 extra for brake fluid change. I called another dealer, close to my office, and they quoted £277.96 all in (breakdown, service £196.63, pollen filter £34.49 and brake fluid £46.84). Its nearly £20 cheaper, but do you think this is a good price for this service ?

Well I know this much, £34.49 for a pollen filter is disgusting, even for an activated carbon one. I'm a big advocate of buying genuine parts and having them installed by a trusted indy.

dunno if it helps but i paid £400 for a 2nd variable when on 33k miles

Breakdown was :

Service

Brake Fluid Change

New Pads all round

Pollen Filter

This was from the Skoda Dealer at Cheshire Oaks. However they should price match so ring around as thats what i did. Simpsons in Colne were going to do it for £405 all in but were 60 miles from me. I rang Cheshire Oaks which was closer and they originally were going to charge £465 iirc however when i said About Simpsons price he said let me get back to you. 10 mins later he rang back and said £400 all in. I later found they had rung Simpsons to check.

So just ring round find the cheapest price you can get and then ask the closest if they will price match but otherwise £277 all in doesn't seem too bad

Ok thanks for the advice, I'll ring around tomorrow and see what I can get

I had mine done in September last year.

total was £201 - pollen filter was only £9.38 ex vat, even had the brake fluid done for free!! Well if they had asked me first or checked the cars history they would have noted it had been done by them 8 months earlier:rofl:

Well at least you got an extra 8 months on the brake fluid for free, always a bouns ;) That was a good price for that service though. Might try calling around outside Kent and see what I find, will keep you posted

Try Caffyns Skoda in Ashford.

I'm based in Folkestone and have found them to be quite reasonable and they definately price match.

What ever you do, avoid SHERLODGE, they havent got a clue on customer service, and they fit parts you dont even ask to be fitted.. Id rather pay more else where than give them my custom......

MED, funnily enough they are the ones are always buy my cars from and normally have them serviced by. Sherlodge want more than Beadles (Maidstone), where do you do for servicing ? I'm going to call Caffyns in Tonbridge and see what they come up with, other than that I can give the ones in Norfolk a go as I'm up there every weekend.
