MP3 Player mounting in Octavia I

Featured Replies

Hi.

Fitted an AUX input to my Grundig head unit last year via the CD changer port.

It works brilliantly with my Creative Zen.... BUT.... it's a bit messy, with cables coming from the cigar socket, and of course the AUX cable itself. Plus it's not safe to operate the player, as it is normally sitting on the passenger seat, or after a sharp bend, some where in the footwell...

Any ideas on how to tidy this up? I was thinking along the lines of a mobile phone/PDA cradle that the player could sit in to. However, I don't want a windscreen suction cup one. Or an air vent clip on one.

There is a lovely littly cubby hole under the head unit... would be great to fit a bracket on there, and have the wiring hidden. Anybody heard of such a thing?!

It would depend on your MP3 player if you can get a bracket for it, I would say with 99.9% certainty that you wont find what your looking for unless its an ipod. You'll either have to go DIY and put some holes in the cubby hole and poke the cable through, that would prob look tidy enough, or you could try a single din bracket, which is a metal plate that sticks out the side of your head unit din slot, which you could then attach your mp3 player to. They do them in various designs and angles to suit most cars.

Checked for Zen mounts... they don't exist. I don't mind the DIY route. I'm even thinking one of those PDA holders with the suction cups... bolted down into the little cubby space. The AUX cable is wired in there anyway so that would be handy. Only thing I'd have ot do is run a USB cable from the cigar lighter, up behind the facia and out at the cubby. can't see that being a problem. Not afraid of a drill!!!!

I could probably take it to a proper in-car entertainment centrer and get a proper job done.... but FFS it's 7 year old brown Skoda!!!! ;)
