Octavia I rs Cruise control/ EM problem

Featured Replies

I have a 53 plate Octavia I vrs,

When I activate cruise control the car will sometimes lose all power, and display the EPC and Engine management light, and will not rev above 1400-1500rpm. It does this very rarely, most of the time the cruise works perfectly.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas before i take it in to be looked at and get charged quite a bit for work like any sporadic problems usually do.

List of conditions:

70ish mph activate CC

CC engages then disengages (seems like a conflict between throttle switch and CC)

Car gets confused

Cuts revs to 1500rpm along with EPC and Engine management light.

pull over to hard shoulder, turn ignition off, turn ignition on to start - All ok and no lights displayed, car runs fine after.

Plugged vehicle into 5051 following faults present:

Eng Elecs: (P1335) Engine torque management 2 control limit exceeded

- Hose leaking / blocked.

Intake air temp sender G42

Air mass meter G70

Sender for coolant temp G62

01 Eng Elecs (P1297) connection charger-throttle valve pressure drop

- connection from turbocharger to throttle valve leaking (I do have a dump valve fitted as running a Jabba remap, and larger Pro Alloy Intercooler, and Miltec Freeflow cat exhaust.)

All help much appreciated

cheers

Chris

The second code I think is the good old 17705 code - pressure leak between turbo and throttle body.

It sounds like you have a leaking pipe somewhere which is opening when you engage cruise control and causing it to go into limp mode.

I wasn't aware that the cruise control system tapped into the turbo pipe work at any point though, I thought it just controlled everything via the throttle body

Do you ever get it going into limp mode during normal driving or is it just when you try to use the cruise control?

the leak is due to the dump valve fitted, I spoke to master tech where i used to work. And yes it only happens when cruise control is activated . i've checked all hoses/connections, and all are ok

Have you tried running it with a different DV?

Try engaging the cruise control when you are still accelerating, then lift off.

Then try it again a seperate time but hit CC just after you lift off the throttle and see if that makes a difference.

I normally accelerate to around seventy and then jab the CC switch just after I lift off the throttle. If the DV is causing a leak, then if you suddenly lift off the throttle and hit the cruise control at the same time (as I do), that might be what is throwing it out, as when you lift off, the DV is supposed to recirc the air

Ok, I shall go and give that a go, sorry forgot to mention, it does it just after moderate to hard acceleration then engage CC when at cruising speed. I don't engage CC under acceleration.

moderate to hard hard to moderate

Ok, have just gone and done the engaging under acceleration and engaging after lift off, and after cruising speed, Fault did not occur, as i said it doesnt do it very often, its probably done it 4 times in its life of 154,000 miles since 2003, but its just annoying when it does happen

Maybe try putting the standard Bosch DV back on for a while if you've still got it, then clear the codes and see if they come back.
