Been lurking for a little while.

I'm currently driving a chipped Mk3 golf VR6 but family requirements necessitate something a little larger.

Top of my list at the moment is an Octavia estate vRS.

I'd like to find out the major differences between the mk1 and mk2, other than the engine.

My budget looks like it's going to stretch to a 3 or 4 yr old one, so this question will make a difference.

Can anyone give me any pointers towards the major differences?

Would I be well advised to get a bit of extra cash to get a mk2?

I know the mark 2 is slightly longer giving more rear leg room, one of the deciding factors for me.
