Odd noises when headlamps switched on

Featured Replies

Octavia Elegance

Quite by chance I noticed an odd noise from the front nearside engine compartment (battery area) when my headlamps are switched on.

No noise when on sidelights or main beam.

I'm suspecting that it may be connected with the headlamp washers which don't work - ie do not produce water jets.

Any thoughts as to what it may be.

could be the level adjusters stuck and the motor constantly trying to raise or lower the light

Sound about right.

I probably got this problem. Is there a common fix for it or do I just take the whole assembly apart, clean it and put it back together?

Assuming this to be the headlamp washer motor where exactly is that located and how is it removed?

Do you mean the washer pump motor? Mine's in the watertank itself. I don't know about removing it, I just disconnected the leads when I removed the washer jets altogether.

My impression is that there is a separate pump for the headlamp washers. As this noise only appears when I have the headlamps switched on, but not main beam, I am sure this is the problem. If I am right, where is this pump located.

Like I said, in the water tank. I have 2 motors there, one for the windscreen and the other for headlights. Ofcourse it could be that yours is different
