Gearing on a vRS or 1.8T Elegance model?

Featured Replies

Hi there

Just about to take the plunge into Skoda ownership probably, but was wondering this. I have driven a couple of Audi TT's and an Audi S3, each of which have the 6 speed gearbox. The vRS and the Elegance only have the 5 speed gearbox fitted, but I'm assuming the 5 speed isn't just the 6 speed missing a gear is it? I expect the 5 gears are spaced a bit further apart than they are on the 6 speeder?

Also, what mph per 1000rpm would you be doing in 5th gear in either a vRS or a 1.8T Elegance? The TT and the S3 were just about bang on 25mph per 1000 rpm in 6th, is 5th in a Skoda fairly similar or not? Anyone know where I could find out exactly (a brochure, some technical info etc?)

Cheers in advance

i think its the same, pretty much

What, you mean approx 25mph per 1000rpm in top on the 5 speed box in the Skodas too?

i mean top in 5th Vs top in 6th is pretty much the same. apparently.

You've still lost me...

It's not the top speed i'm concerned about, but how tall/short the gearing is. ie. How many mph per 1000rpm in 5th on a vRS is there roughly...?

no idea on it as i don't drive one, what i am saying though is apparently the gearing is about the same in 5th on the 5 speed box as 6th on the 6 speed box in terms of mph/1000rpm is a vRS should be the same as an S3 according to that when they are both in their highest gear.

Gearing is pretty long on the VRS -

2nd - 65~

3rd - 100~ so I am told by people who have tested on track

150~ 5th so you get some idea, should be vsimular to 6th in TT.
