problem solved

The problem of getting a aux input for the dx sat nav unit is fitting a parrot mki 9200 bluetooth hands free kit it comes with leads for i pod, usb and 3.5mm jack very good audio quality and best of all you get steering wheel controls for phone and audio

Do these Parrot and IO Play etc. products just completely cut the HU out of the picture and run the speakers directly, like the phone only Parrot kits do? In that case it isn't providing any input at all for the HU and I assume the volume on the HU does nothing when you are streaming music and the only controls are the ones they provide. That also means you lose traffic updates over RDS, navigation instructions and (I'm guessing here as I'm new to the vehicle) the distance sensor bleeps that come through the speakers. I also can't see how the audio quality can be anything but different in some way to the HU's output, even if in absolute terms it's still good as you say.

I'm not knocking it if it meets your need, but that's too big a trade-off for me and I'd actually be happy just with an aux-in and use my iPhone to control it, plus a Bluetooth solution for phonecalls I guess. If I can't get that sorted out (for an Audience with Sound System in my case) then I'm tempted just to go with an FM transmitter solution and see how that works out now the technology has moved on a bit.
