Got a 1.6 GLXi Mk 1 Octavia --

Driving home this evening and about a mile from home changed gear and something "popped".

Pulled up at home and gearbox oil was pouring out of box, so called breakdown service who confirmed what it was. -- Looking thru the forums it appears that the diff rivets are weak and that the gearbox problem is common on the 1.6 models.( Typical !!)

So....... does anyone have any recomendations of places in the north east (around South Shields) where I can get the problem sorted and an approximation of what the cost is likely to be ?

new gearbox req not going to be cheap search the scrappy's and ebay:thumbup:

Yep, looked there but not a great deal going on ebay. probably go for a re-conditioned box.

VeeDubs in Pelaw mate, go past Hebburn College towards Pelaw, over the hill and down to the Factory place on the left, theres a set of traffic lights next to a couple of shops, turn right at them and follow the road all the way down, its on the left, and they only deal with all VAG stuff
