Emission Workshop

Featured Replies

Just on my way back from a BBQ (very nice indeed )

Emission workshop warning appeared and yellow valve light has come on.

Searched the forum and came up with possible fuel temp sensor.failure.

As anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

Yes, but it's most likely the coolant temp sensor, is the car still running just fine? the part is about £15 from GSF and is diy if you are reasonably competent, easiest way to do it on a 1.9 TDi is to remove the air filter box, this allows you to get your hand in from the side, the temp sensor is a green/black one that sits to the rear of the engine behind the EGR valve location but lower and further back if you follow that, the horseshoe clip just pushes off and the wiring is unclipped in the same way all the other connectors unclip, if the engine is hot wear some gloves, and you will need about 1 litre of antifreeze ready mixed to top up afterwards.

Thanks Supurbia,

Yes the car is running perfectly. The manuel sayes it should be in limp home mode but I have been out in her all day and cannot see/feel a difference.

I am hopefully getting the error codes read tomorrow so will keep you informed.

Thanks again

Well it was the Fuel Temp sensor. I believe this is exactly the same as a grey 2 pin coolant sensor. Reset the fault and nothing has come on for 50 miles town driving so going to wait and see. Possible that it was a glitch, but time will tell.

Any idea where the fuel temp sensor is located?

After reading the forum, a few machanics have said it takes longer to fill the paperwork in than to change it!

If you take off the engine cover and follow the fuel hoses from the filter as they run towards you and then loop round to the back, you'll get to the fuel temperature sensor.
