Door Lock / Electric Mirror

Featured Replies

Hi,

a previous owner of my octavia (excitement city 1.6...) had somehow broken the drivers door lock knob and has glued the knob in a permanent upright position. the shabby gluing i could live with but it always looks unlocked. before i go about opening the drivers door up does anyone know if its just a control rod that goes up and down with the grey button attached or an intregral part requiring a whole new lock?

my passenger side electric mirror has also given up its side-to-side movement - the casing is fine can this be easily transplanted onto a breakers unit of a different colour (mine is colour coded dark green) as i can't find a breaker in my colour?

and lastly a few posts mention golf window regulators bening superior than my current papier mache ones? my passenger side is about to fail (very crunchy now) and i'd rather fix it with a less self destructive part.

any help / pointers advise much appreciated.

cheers

toby

The grey button is attached to the top of as metal rod that attaches to the door actuator so no, you won't need a whole new unit.

The mirrors casing should be able to be transferred .... the coloured part is separate as I understand.

A new window regulator will have all the VAG group markings on the package .... they would appear to be standard across the manufacturers, but check with the dealer.

Hope this helps!

thanks for the info - i'll see about separating the casing a little later and ordering the control rod monday

On a side not, how do the door pins attach to the control rod? When mine is locked, all doors except the drivers door completely sink, almost flush, but the drivers door is still poking out by around a half inch??? Do they screw onto the rod? Or is it a door card off disaster??

I think they push fit, but definately a door panel off jobby as you need to get the rod off the actuator .... that just twists into alocator so not difficult!

Turns out the plastic bit that retains the rod at the lock end was a bit mangled. managed to bodge it into place and it operates as it should but i doubt it'll stay like that. the first thing to fall out of the the door when the card came off was an old lock button. the door itself was full of glass. i have a few questions for the previous owner should i ever meet them.

easy to fix anyway and the parts were priced at £1.17 (including Vat).

passed its MOT too - second time. failed miserably on the offside number plate light not working. the paperwork listed two fails

1. the offside rear number plate light does not work

2. the offside rear number plate light shines white light away from the number plate (or words to this effect)

i thought this didn't add up. anyway a 10 minute replacement later and it passed. hazzah....

thanks again for help - i'll see about the mirror after payday.
