Octy vRS Central Locking Problem - another one!

Featured Replies

Hello,

First post is a long one, but bear with me.

I have owned a 2002 Octavia vRS since December last year, and guess what? Yep, that’s right, another owner with the dreaded central locking woes.

The symptoms are:

  • Fob won’t remote unlock any of the doors, nor the boot.
  • Fob won’t remote lock the doors or the boot.
  • Both door jam lights do not work
  • The interior lights do not work
  • The wing mirror adjustments knob does not work.

The key will manually unlock all doors and the boot, however it does it in a two stage action:

  1. The driver’s door unlocks first (the door plunger comes up)
  2. The remaining doors unlock (the plungers of each all come up together)

The same sequence happens (in reverse, I think) when I manually lock the car with the key.

I have searched and read all the exiting threads on the forum to try and diagnose the problem

So far I have done the following:

  • Taken the driver’s door card off and checked the connector to the window regulator for moisture and it is bone dry – sprayed it with electrical cleaner anyway.
  • Disconnected the Central (un)Convenience Module and re-connected it.
  • Pulled out all the necessary fuses

None of which made any difference at all.

As a last resort I disconnected the car battery for a few minutes. Upon re-connecting, the following happened:

  • Door jamb lights now work
  • All windows works – however, the driver’s window does get a bit confused when closing it when it is fully wound down, it goes up then winds half way down again – none of the other windows do this
  • All interior lights work
  • Wing mirror adjustment works

Great it’s all working properly bar the driver’s window.

I then remote lock the car with fob – all doors and boot lock correctly. However, when I try to remote unlock the car with the fob, nothing happens.

When I use the key to manually unlock the car, all doors and boot unlock successfully with the two stages mentioned before, but I have the exact same symptoms where nothing works again.

I do have VAG-COM – and it does say (from memory, as I have not plugged it in for some time) that it can’t communicate with the Central Convenience Module.

Yet, when I disconnect the car battery again, everything works until I remote lock the car.

I am guessing that I have a faulty Central Convenience Module, but I do not want to buy one and fit it to find that it does not cure the problem.

Is there anyone near Fareham, Hampshire with a fully working vRS that would not mind me temporarily plugging in their CCM to see if it will work in my car?

I assume I would have to program my fobs to the CCM for the remote locking / unlocking to work.

This won't help with the CCM issue but after you disconnect the battery you need to reset the electric windows - that's probably why your drivers side window was having a moment

To reset the windows once the battery is re-connected lock the car with the key in the door and hold it in the locked position for about 5 seconds. If any of the windows or sunroof are open they will close and it then memorises their closed position.

Cheers, will try that tomorrow. If only it would fix everything else, life would be so much easier!
