Phatbox assistance anyone ???

Featured Replies

Help....got me a Phatbox n mounted it in the car.....BUT just cannot get it to work. Not sure if it's my computing skills (very basic), or something more ?

Have worked through the manual several times n no joy.

Car is Occy2 with MFD2.

Anyone in Gloucester / Bristol area who would be willing to assist ????

:(

Should just be plug and play. I had the same setup in my Octy 2 and it worked no problems.

Unit should be set to 6-button VW from memory then I think you have to connect it up with the DMS inserted.

Thanx for the reply.....

Have uninstalled and re-installed Phatnoise Music Manager. When I go through the process of selecting the stereo, the only option I get is like a generic VW file from a menu covering several different makes of car, but cannot select any specific stereo option from within the VW file..

When I go to refresh DMS then I get screen saying opening files, but then system just hangs !!

I think this is the problem area but not familiar enough with system to get around.

Any ideas?

Not without seeing the unit.

I have a couple of copies of the Music Manager which you are welcome to and also the documentation which may help. It has been a while since I have played with Phatboxes and I would struggle now as I seem to remember it doesn't work under Vista.

PM me an address and I will stick a disk in the post.:)

I've had Phatboxes in a number of cars and they always worked very well. But the shortcoming is the Music Manager IMO - it always seemed to hang/crash/freeze or generally not to what you'd expect!

So I'd try a newer/different version of that.

Loaded 3 x "Discs", but now need to set head unit type....A, B, C etc....up to T

How do I find out which letter refers to an MFD2 ? anone ??

Now getting some speech....female leads and male answers !!

Cannot select the individual "Disc" files so assume wrong head unit code used.

Any ideas welcome.

For your head unit you need to select VW RNS.

For the voices if you install the Mary file you can have a female voice for everything.

I think the probkem is because your Phatbox came from an Audi but it needs to be a VW one. Its only a question of firmware which you select via headunit type.

If you still can't get it running then I would suggest having a search around here. PhatHack

I will have a look and see if I can see the reference for the MFD2. I'm sure there was some document that had a list of all the compatible HU and there relevent code.

I've just bought a car with phatbox and I just dont like it. I have itunes and currently theres no way of using itunes aac files on the phatbox and i'm not re-installing all the 100's of CD's ive got just so its in an mp3 format. Its just crazy.

I'm looking around for an iPod solution to work with the MFD. If I find one I think I will remove the phatbox. I might even take it out and put a cd changer back in I dont like that much.

It's not very user friendly to find different playlists either and theres no track listings/names.

I've been on phathack and installed different versions of music and media manager and tried older versions of itunes that are supposed to work but no joy up to now. I've got to the point of not wanting to spend any more time trying to solve the problem.

I have a Phatbox in the Fabia and once you get your head around the navigation I think it's pretty sensible.

The only issue that my wife came across is that on the version of the disk manager we have, you must commit the changes to the Phatbox. Unless you do that, it doesn't actually copy anything.

Also - Media Manager Plus (the one you have to pay for) supports iTUnes and AAC file formats.

Also - Media Manager Plus (the one you have to pay for) supports iTUnes and AAC file formats.

I've done a bit of research on this and IF you can buy a copy (it's not supported anymore so havent bought a copy yet) all users report that its still not possible to imprt itunes music due to secure aac files.

I'm still looking into this.

Thanks for the advice...but gone into the downloads section on the Phatnoise site but cannot locate anything like the

http://www.phatnoise.com/downloads/3301-husetup_web.pdf

......you suggested.

I'm not particularly conversant with the mysteries of the web, but even clicking on the link doesn't bring anything up. Am I missing something ????

I included that document in the zip file. Its a .pdf but it seems to be corrupt. :(

Ok found it !!!

Downloaded but wont open....file damaged and cannot be repaired !!

Anyone got a copy which will open ok ????

:)

Yep looks like the file is corrupt, sorry.

I've just checked the hard copy i've got and for the RNS MFD2 you should use radio code type L.

Just for reference its radio type J for the RNS MFD.

I will see if I can scan a copy and post it.
