Personal Computer World magazine

Featured Replies

I have just read from another forum that PCW has been axed after many many years of publication. :(

PS. I don't know if this should be posted in here "Tech Shed" or in "Off Topic and Chit Chat" section. Please move if needed.

:) WIsh I had known this yesterday as my final case study exam was focussed on the puzzle and computer magazine publishing industry. There were predictions in my internet research that the economic turmoil would "thin out" the weaker magazines from the strong.

To be honest, the days of magazine/paper publications are limited.

With websites, google and RSS feeds, theres very little you cant find out within 2 minutes of google time.

The only time i buy magazines/poapers these days, is when im on holiday, with no internet access.

What SnailUK said. I've not bought a computer mag since about 1997 for that very reason. Computer magazines are redundant.

As above, there's been no need in my mind to purchase a title such as this for some time. No need to use the magazine cover discs when you can download what you need, no need to check out what resellers are peddling when you can look up millions of prices within minutes on the 'net.

It's a shame but I can't help spot the irony that the industry that the magazine is involved in, and writes about, has resulted in its downfall...

I've tried.... but sitting on the bog with a laptop just isn't the same!

Although I only really buy an Xbox magazine some times, and get Autocar and Performance car delivered.

In general magazine terms, I still buy Evo on subscription. But read Drivers Republic and Road online (as they're web-only) and find the format great.

You clearly need a web-enabled phone for your calls of nature ;)

It's a shame that some of the well established magazines have gone now. I used to love CCC (Cars & Car Conversions) but about 5 years ago it suddenly stopped after 41 years in publication. I used to trust the articles from the likes of Dave Walker and Tim Whittington etc. I now buy Track and Race Cars as a replacement.
