Radio reception

Featured Replies

The radio reception in my Octavia seems very poor,I love to listen to Italian stations which I used to hear clear enough in my old Estelle which had a Kenwood head unit but a cheap five pound roof antenna and in the Felicia again with the original roof antenna,in the Octavia though it's a completely different story, sometimes even the local radio stations cut out occasionaly,Do some sort of radio boosters exist which can be fitted without any complications or,if I fit an OE antenna for models equipped with mobile or GPS will these have a stronger signal ?,Radio fitted on my car is the Audience with the built in 6 disc changer

I found the audience to have excellent reception. You may have the common octy2 issue of the failed aerial booster which is located in the base of the aerial on the roof. Water ingress causes them to fail and the only way to fix it, is to get the rear aerial including base replaced.

I had the antenna on my Fabia replaced under warranty as the connector on the radio was faulty. The cable had broken off and was intermittently connecting.

...sometimes even the local radio stations cut out occasionaly...

Turn off the AF function.

Is there a way of knowing if this is failed, or does it just need replacing to see if it improves it or not?

My reception is OK generally, but can cut out at times when i wouldnt have expected it to. Now i have just bought an ipod fm modulator thing which is not performing anywhere near as i feel it should. I will test it in another car and see if it is the unit, but if not then i feel my dealer may need some convincing if they turn the radio on at their garage and it isnt cutting out.

I think the Audience is similar to the Stream radio, so to check to see if the aerial booster is working there is a simple test. Tune into an FM station and hold the MENU button in for 10 seconds. The display will change and show the signal strength where the volume is normally displayed, the top left will show ANT on/off, if ON the aerial booster is ok, if OFF the booster or coax lead is faulty (fairly common problem across the VAG group), bottom left will show mono/stereo. Press the menu button again to return to the normal display.

That's useful information to know.

Perhaps that part should be made a sticky.

silly question which is the menu button there is nothing on mine which says menu

Which radio do you have?

You could try "Setup" if it's the Bolero.
