Octavia VRS 03 Plate brake grinding noise

Hi, i am posting this for my father who owns a 03 plate Octavia VRS.

Since having a service by a Skoda dealer near to Cambridge, the front brakes (it could be the rear brakes) sound like they are grinding on there rivets when the car comes to a stop, the pads were changed and i'm sure he said the anti roll bar as well (it was just asked!), does anybody have any ideas?

Also on start up it sounds like a diesel engine with a hole in the exhaust but nothing was found when looked at under the ramps, does this ring any bells?

Can anyone help as its been to another garage and has come back with the same problems?
