MOT failed on handbrake

Featured Replies

As per title I had the unfortunate news this morning that my 54 reg Oct mk1 VRs failed its MOT due to only one of the rear calipers (nearside) actually working when the handbrake is applied.

The other caliper (offside) either didnt move at all or moved very little and as such failed as being dangerous. :rotz:

The cars booked in for next week to strip the caliper down and see whats wrong with it but I have been advised it maybe a seized caliper, handbrake part, as the cable is moving when handbrake is applied.

If its seized think I am looking at having to shell out for new caliper priced at £150-160 new from skoda. And rear pads and discs were given as an advisory so might aswell change these too.

Has anybody else had this problem? Noticed one thread of a very silmilar topic.

Also has anyone upgraded their calipers on the Vrs and has a spare caliper in working for sale?

thanks for that. I had a look there. Good price. Think they are refurbs but I'm sure it will be fine.

I had the same problem, bought a new caliper, took a good look at the one fitted on the car and suddenly realised that the handrake cable was out of adjustment, i.e the lever was up against the stop, a few turns with a spanner on the adjuster; sorted.
