Phatbox in an Octy 2

Featured Replies

I bought a phatbox off a fellow Briskodian recently. There are a few models, so it looks like this one here:

Just wondering how people have fitted this in their Octavias?

Had a quick look today and it's too large for the plastic bracket that holds the current changer, so that will have to come out.

Don't honestly care what it looks like (as it will be hidden in the cubby hold) but is sticking it to the rear of the cubby hole cover with velcro a viable, if crap, solution? :)

Also, how does the plastic CD changer bracket come out? There appears to be 2 screws only holding it to the chassis at the bottom. They are covered with plastic screw covers which I can't seem to get off - have tried a fair bit of force.

Hedge and Chris Ellis had it velcro'd to the back seat IIRC.

Ta - Just bought some velcro off eBay :)

Any ideas on the changer bracket removal?

Mmmmm....after a lot of hassle getting it going installation was the easy bit.

Just done 1260 mile round trip with plenty of entertainment thanks to Briskoda members advice and perseverance. It was about to go back on fleabay.

I tried to remove plastic CD Changer rack, but gave up. I cut away necessary areas to clear cartridge removal, fitted a mounting plate and screwed phatbox to plate vertically. If time will take some snaps.

I mounted it like Chris and Ian to the rear of the seat in my last 2 octy's, the CD Carriage is easy enough to remove but one word of warning, iirc there are a couple of fastener brackets that are actually spot welded to the rear 1/4 panel and so could be easy to damage.

Thanks fellas.

Interesting to hear about the spot weld, as considering it looked to be only held on in 2 (of the many) fixing points, it's on bloody tight :)

Velcro is a good enough solution I think. How did you afix the velcro to the back of the seat?

I used the male side of the heavy duty Velcro I found at B & Q. It was better on the wheelarch rather than the seat back.

Ah, ok - think I misunderstood.

So, you used the self adhesive male velcro on the underside of the phatbox and that was good enough to stick to the material of the wheel arch/seat back?

Or have I still got that wrong :)

Thats the one.

See attached images for how I mounted phatbox vertically. Cut away plastic for CD Changer to suit. Fit bent steel plate (all I had) but aluminium would be easier. Self tappers to plastic frame at top and through carpet trim at bottom. Phatbox screws to plate with self tappers.

Item above is a small AC inverter for laptop power.

Thanks for the photos - might think about doing that as I'd prefer it hidden away really, and I'll only ever need 1 bay in the plastic case should I decide to stick the changer back in.
