Tyres Again!!

Featured Replies

I know there have been many discussions on tyres on the site. However I dont have enough time to read through them all.....!!! Ive bought a set of 18" Zenith alloys for my Vrs and would like some thoughts on what tyres to buy? My budget will be no more than £500 for a set of 4. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'll just add about my tyres as I do on these threads.

Mine are on 17" Zenith's (As they are so new I won't be looking to swap my wheels for 18" for a while now :) )

I do know the same tyre is available on the 18"

Bridgestone RE050A

Certainly not the cheapest tyre - I managed to do a little negotiation and I paid £125 per corner for a complete set of 4.

When I initially had them fitted, for the first 100 miles I was underwhelmed.

Really didn't seem anything special, felt maybe I'd paid a lot when I could have spent less and had something as good.

However after 100 miles they seemed to bed-in and really come into their own.

They quietened down.

They started really sticking to the road in both dry and extremely wet conditions.

The general drive felt smooth and comfortable.

I really trust these tyres, I've no hesitation in taking those corners a little faster in the wet etc as I know these tyres really are doing a good job.

Certainly not cheap but I can certainly recommend them.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas are my recommendation. They look good and they perform well in all conditions. They are always rated in the top 3 in the various tyre tests. They're about £100 each at tyrespot so come in under budget.

Seconded; Ultrac Sessantas for me too. Recently switched onto my second set. ;)

Thirded!

I am running SporTrac3 on the wifes Furby vRS and on my previous Toledo and the wet grip was immense! I loved them a lot and will fit Vredesteins to my new Octy when the SportMaxxs are ready for replacement

I am changing my alloys to 17's instead of getting new tyres. Just wondered what the best plan is to do with my 16 inch vrs alloys? Would you recommend joining the part of this forum that you pay for to advertise them or stick em on fleabay?

Well I had a set of Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas 225/40R18s fitted to my 18" Zeniths yesterday and it looks really good Jonno. They havent bedded in yet, but I can feel the difference. Got them for £108 fitted and balanced for each corner, so came in under budget. Thanks for your help.

I've got a set of 18's sitting at work hiding from the wife because I've not even got the car yet.My plan is to fit a set of 225/40/18 Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, swap them with the 17's and hope to God she doesn't notice. Given that she totally understands understeer, oversteer, anti lag and the difference between PD and CR I think I'm gonna struggle!! :(

This of course meand that I'll have a mint set of 17" Zeniths with tyres tha will have covered less than 500 miles for sale on Freedom! (having paid my subs for 2yrs this morning before anybody moans about dodgy advertising!)

Hi, I cannot find these in the" for sale" section.

CostCo are pretty good for tyres as long as you only want Michelin, I got four when they had the 25% off offer. 4 x Michelin Pilot Sport 2 at £423.16 fitted & filled with Nitrogen.

That would be because I've not even got the vehicle yet hence my comment "I'll >have< a set of.......

Keep an eye out - will be on there soon ;)

Kumho KU31 less than 100 quid each fitted, really happy with them so far.
