amp trouble

Featured Replies

hi all, installed amp and 3 subs on sat morning! had everything working by the afternoon and everything was ok when i parked up and went to bed!

up sunday and went a run... still everything was fine about an hour ago was driving back home and all of a sudden all subs stopped

then this horrid smell started to appear :thumbdwn: stopped and opened the boot and to my horror  the bloody amp was smoking away like hell

disconnected everything and headed home!

just opened up the amp the now and inside was all melted away :thumbdwn:

everything was connected right and was working fine with green light coming on all time

do you think it was just a faulty amp? or could i have done sumit wrong?

checked everything and all was correct! have four amps since this one and never had this trouble before

amp was a shark 1400 watt! think maybe it was just cheap crap?

in a word yes thats probbaly the answer... :thumbdwn:

also what ohm was you running the amp at ?? running 3 subs it must have been low...and i suspect the amp could not support it being a cheap amp probblay wont have all the shut off an fail safe devices more expensive amps have so sat there and smoked it self :thumbdwn:

know this is a silly question but the terminals on the battery dont kick out a higher voltage??

How did you have these wired up?

If you had them in parallel then the impedance would have been way less than the amp could support and being cheap tat it just melted instead of shutting down

had them in each channel, amp was a 3 channel 1400 watt amp!

they where not bridged!!

and gain etc was not even up that high!

looks like i better find a better quality amp me thinks

sounds more like a faulty amp o me now...each channel woudl have been seeing i guess 4ohm and 99.9% of the amps on the market can support that..get it changed under warrenty and try another one for now instead of spending on another amp..
