Second Speedo

Featured Replies

Hiya,

My nice new shiny Octavia 2009 L&K 1.8TSI is lovely, but I wonder if someone out there can help me with 2 items:

1) On the maxidot display, there is a second speedo that is displaying in km/h. I do not work in km/h and in the UK, we do not use km/h. The manual suggests that it should be possible to change the readout to mph, but it does not appear to be available - does it actually exist? If so, how can it be changed? The main speedo is in mph, so I am ok for the most part.

2) Please tell me there is a way to turn off the seat belt alarm - the dash board lamp can come on, that I have no problem with, but the bleeping gets on my nerves and when reversing, it does not go off - legally, I am allowed to reverse with my seat belt off. My fabia did at least shut up when reversing.

Thanks,

Martin

What exactly do you mean by second speedometer,do you mean the trip and odometers,if you want to change those to miles hold pushed for around 5 seconds the push at the end of the stalk which you use to change the display of the maxidot with, from the menu select Units and change them to mpg/GB mile and the odometer/trip counter should be in miles rather than kms and the economy meter will now display mpg rather than l/km.Regarding the safety belt chime it drives me mad as well, but am afraid there is no way to switch the thing off,i maybe wrong but doubt it very much that you can switch that off, maybe if you unplug the socket from the safety belt buckle but then it might either sound all the time as a warning that something is wrong and also the red light on the display won't come on.

I think the Speed reading has to be done in VCDS

The Seat belt chime definately has to be done in VCDS

The second speedo in KMH is a requirement for europe/eire so you may not be able to change it at all. Most speedos have dual mph/kmh but now that the octy speedo only shows mph, the kmh has been moved to the maxidot display.

The seat belt chime can be turned off with VCDS or unplug it under the seat as i have done

I think this is an option if you change the units to KM/h in maxidot?

IIRC change it back to UK miles and the speed display will disappear.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was rather hoping that the km/h could be changed to mph - I have no desire to ever go near to Europe (in fact, I would love to drag the UK as far from Europe as is possible, but that is a way off topic). I understand that the main speedo is in mph. I will try messing with the units in the setup again to see what that does. On my old granada we had a sort of "diagnostic" tool - if one pressed and held the trip computer button, it would go into a sort of debug mode by which all sorts of settings could be altered - not in the manual or the haynes, but very useful nevertheless. I was thinking that perhaps there is something like this in the Octy.

I have to admit to not thinking about unplugging the seat to turn off the seat belt. It had been suggested that I "sit on" the seat belt (plug it in first, then lean on it, but that could be dangerous in case I forget). I like the visual alarm, just not the audible bit. Does anyone know of there is a low temperature beep on the Octy? I have not had in the winter yet and thus I don't know if it beeps when it gets cold. The Fabia did and it always made me jump out of my skin

Again, thank you to everyone for their welcome and their help.

Yes there is a low temperature beep it's set at 4 degrees iirc :)

Which is the same as the Fabia.

Hi,

ref your seat belt warning buzzer.

As mentioned above, just unplug it. Under your seat is a plastic cover. Remove this and there are two plugs, one brown and one yellow.

DO NOT pull the yellow as this is the air bag circuit and will bring on your air bag warning light. The plug you need to unplug is the smaller BROWN. It will not bring any warning lights on the dash.

I am a taxi driver and do not have to wear a seatbelt whilst working, so it was very annoying. It is heaven now whilst driving locally, although I do wear a belt when I drive any significant distance.

There is quite a lot of diagnostic info available from the climatronic display, see the " Duel zone Climatronic settings " heading part way down in the first post of this thread :

http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/new-octavia-tips-tricks/55750/

Note that the digital speed displayed here is much more accurate than the std speedo, which usually reads a bit fast.

I think this is info is "display only" (ie you can't change anything - you need Maxidot, VagCom/VCDS or the dealer software tool to change things)

Hope that helps.

how can you change the maxidot speedo from km to mph. I cant see it in the setup parameter chaps. Was in last night changing key door opening from driver to all doors.

Look for an option called units.

Still struggling boys to get MPH on the maxidot speedo, KPH...driving me nuts.

You cant get MPH on maxidot, only KPH. You maybe able to change this in vagcom, but I think you'd need to change the settings there to KPH to show MPH.

Perhaps Shark90 may have a better idea?
