Suspension Bolts

Featured Replies

I posted this in ask a tech originally but didn't get much so here goes again

I've ordered some new springs for my 4x4 Octy, just wondered what bolts or other parts I might need while replacing them? I was going to get ball joint/lower arm bolts/nuts, upper mounting nut, spring seat retaining nut, wheel bearing housing nut and bolt. These are what I've picked from reading Haynes manual. I've already ordered rear bump stop rubbers as when I found the broken rear springs they seemed mangy. I recently replace the lower wishbones and ball joints, and am going to get the front droplinks as well. (car is falling apart):thumbdwn:

Springs have turned up now so no hints?

Hi there , I posted A how to guide some months back , Typically I can't find it.

As Yours is a 4x4 it might be different to my VRS, but I ordered all replacement parts that were to be taken off the car suspension, like nuts and bolts just to be on the safe side.

Should not really need to remove ball joints and lower arms unless they need replacing.

But this is a start for you.

thats great thanks. The rear stuff is different I think but the fronts all the same. Did you actually need to replace strut bearings and mounts or was it just precautionary?

It was precautionary. My car has done over 100,000 miles so thought it was worth doing. In fact I have changed every nut/bolt under the car now what with all the mods I have done. It is like new underneath.

To be honest you could get away with reusing most bits, but the worst thing to happen is when a bolt shears when you are half done on one side, especially if you need the car the next day. That is exactly what happened when I renewed the ball joints. Those bolts will more than likely shear if you are changing them, as they are stretch bolts.

And to be honest they don't cost that much from VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat all the same p/n's

I've already done the ball joints so I've - hopefully - ordered the various nuts and bolts I need. Cars only done 62k so hopefully won't need much else but we'll see, thanks for your help.
