Recently bought (as in collected last night) a met black Octavia vRS. Love the car so far!!!

Done 62k, and checking all the info available, especially on here (thanks guys) I realise that the car needs the cam belt doing. Recent service in the book, but "toothed belt" not done. Not something I was aware needed doing for a while at time of purchase, but nevermind. My bad!! :rotz:

Will call my local stealership to get a starting point on price, but can anyone recommend a independant garage to get the work done. I assume any VAG will do.

I live in Medway and work in Maidstone to something near to either would be great.

Your words of wisdom would be greatly received.

It will need the water pump doing at the same time as the cambelt too.

Main dealer will probably say close to £300 for both.

Independent will do it for maybe £50 less.

I personally would steer well clear of the Skoda dealer in Gillingham (i know another person on here swears by them though)

My Superb had only ever been serviced by them when i bought it, yet filters had not been changed at the correct interval and some of the clips that hold the undertray on were missing and cable ties used instead!

Not the kind of service i would expect from a main dealer.

I called Beadles in Maidstone (main stealership) and they quoted £451 plus VAT and not including water pump.

Had a look round and checked out place in Portsmouth (JKM, I think) now booked in there for the cambelt, water pump (metal impeller) and for cruise control to be fitted ( i will actually use it) all for the same price that the local dealer would charge just for the cambelt and water pump.

Just need to get there early in the day. I'll have to take my seven year old son to see HMS Victory or something to pass the time.

Shame I didn't come across this post earlier. GMS are an independent who specialise in Skoda/ VW / Audi and are based on the Northen edge of Maidstone.

I don't know what he would charge but I can bet it would be fair and he really lookas after you.

Don't be disheartened though if you have to phone a few times to get through.
