New car check list

Featured Replies

I'm wonder if there is anybody who got a checklist for receiving/picking up a brand new car.

It depends how thorough you want to be but at the least I'd check that there are no dents or scratches in the paintwork and that all optional extra's that you paid for have been fitted.

You could also do obvious visual checks to make sure all the lights work okay, the engine doesn't have any strange noises and the brakes work.

Most things should have been checked in the pre-delivery inspection but you can't always rely that it has. When my wife bought a new VW Polo we got home from the dealers (20 miles away!) to find that the rear offside door would not open and the radio didn't work.

I think it would be unusual for it to be built with standard spec items to be missing but you could go to Skoda's website and go through the 'build your own' facility and then print out the spec, which is usually quite comprehensive (although not necessarily complete), and use this as a checklist.

You may not wish to do so at the dealers but it might be worth checking the tyre pressures and oil, coolant and washer levels when you get home.

Spare wheel, jack, locking nut should be present (if supposed to be in your market).

It is better to look at the paintwork in sunlight if possible. Look for roughness in the paint on the roof (and sometimes bonnet) .

Packing spacers should have been removed from the suspension springs.

I took mine for a short drive before I handed over my hard earned money.

Spare key, special security code for ECU (on a plastic tab with the keys).

The double sun visors were missing on my Octavia. Didn't notice it until arriving home, 8 hours after picking up the car i Sweden

You should also check if your car is equipped with the lights and light switch that you ordered.

Sorry, but I haven't seen any checklist. But you may be able to make one yourself by watching this thread over a few days. Tons of information amongst these Skoda enthusiasts

Ask for a copy of the PDI check list, and check it all with someone at the dealership.
