De-finning airbox on vRS

Featured Replies

Sorry, I'm sure this has been covered but my search powers are weak as I get 250 threads of anything but de-finning airboxes :o

Firstly- How do you get the plastic tube bit off at the pipe end so that I can fully remove the top of the air box?

Secondly- Do I need to do top and bottom?

Thirdly- Whats the best method? I had a quick go at one fin on the bottom with a stanley knife and got pretty much no where. I do have a dremel in the garage though...

Thanks :)

You should of searched under airbox, and in Octavia mark 1 section. would have gone straight to this thread.

I did this to mine before I had a REVO stage 2 remap. I even have some pics of it de finned and drilled in that thread.

Here is a few pointers.

Firstly- How do you get the plastic tube bit off at the pipe end so that I can fully remove the top of the air box?

- You really need to remove the whole airbox complete. It is easier and you will need to de fin both sections. Just remove the 2 bolts holding the box down. One bolt near the top suspension turrent and the other down between the battery and the airbox. Unclip the MAF Connector and remove the hose to the MAF. Press in the secondary air hose that fits into the bottom of the Airbox and pull away from the airbox. Then you can wiggle the Airbox out starting from the MAF side lifting it up then pulling it to remove it out from the inner wing bracket. Then just undo the 2 screws holding MAF in and the 2 screws holding the top of the box to the bottom.

Secondly- Do I need to do top and bottom?

- Yes if you want to do a proper job.

Thirdly- Whats the best method?

- I used a sharp chissel and a meaty hammer and by using the reverse side of the chissel and holding it at the top section of each fin hitting with hammer to split the fin away from the box. Actually quite simple and the fin is weaker than the box so you should not damage the box if careful. Then tidy up any remaining leftovers with a stanley blade. Job done
