Connection advice please for connecting an ipod

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm in the process of buying my first skoda - a 55 plate 1.9SDi. Have had a very quick look at some of the discussions as was trying to see the best way to connect my ipod to the symphony cd/radio. Is the Connects2 option the best one for good sound and charging and controlling my ipod from the stereo or are there other devices I should look at?

Thanks I'll check it out

just make sure you connect via the docking base - the output is far better than plugging into the iPod directly...

I noticed that a lot when connecting my ipod up to my home hi-fi thanks.

I got one from XCarLink, pretty much the same box of tricks with different branding I think. I wanted to keep the OEM CD Changer, not sure if the Connects2 one does that as well?

Thanks will have to shop around and see where I can get the best deal. Halfords can supply the Connects 2 one but it was more than £90 which I think is a bit expensive.

Skoda iPod Interface 8 pin ISO Connector :: SKODA :: XCarLink

That's the one I got. It's a little tricky to get working with the OEM CD changer, as the Symphony doesn't seem to have the buttons it wants to select between iPod and CD changer (not CD slot). But I seem to have the hang of it now and can do it 90% of the time without thinking.

Charges my iPhone 3Gs, though pops up telling me it's not made for the iPhone (doubt you'll have an issue with an actual iPod).

I used a (googled) discount code "xdadevelopers2" which knocked 10% off the £75.

Not the most elegant solution, I'm sure. But it works - and I now have access to my whole iTunes library (and still have 7 CD's when I'm not using the iPod (or want to use TomTom without the music being cut out every 10 seconds))

I've been looking at these and noticed there are 2 connection options. The one you posted with an 8 pin ISO connector and one with a 2 x 6 pin connector.

Without taking out the Symphony radio out I didn't know which one was correct.

Mine was the ISO block. I'd assume they all were ISO stereos in the fabia? as the CD changer is an ISO block too.

Thanks, this looks a better option than the connects2 which appears to disconnect the CD autochanger.

this one connects via the 3.5mm jack BUT allows you to keep the autochanger.
