Just ordered a 1.8TSi Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi my first post after lurking on this site for a while reading all these useful threads that helped sway my decision to Skoda.

After a quick trip to Motorpoint Peterborough to see a pre fL VRs CR, which looked very nice in black (too much effort to keep looking nice) I still decided to buy a new 1.8TSi Elegance in Anthracite Grey (only other extras are Maxidot and Spare wheel) having driven one earlier in the week and the deal offered.

I have tried a petrol VRS a CR VRS and a 2.0Tdi and prefered the 1.8TSi overall, though had a new CR VRS been a little bit cheaper I would have gone for one of those.

The only one concern is the fuel consumption as i will be changing from a 1.6TDCi C-Max. I think the 1.6CR would have been the sensible choice but as the 1.8TSi was similar ££ and so nice to drive and I only do 11-12K per year that one won.

If anyone on here can reassure me I have made the right choice I will be even happier than I am already. 8-10 weeks to wait now.

All I have to get over now is the ribbing I will get from the "brand police" who will be convinced I should have paid ££ extra for a similar spec Golf etc. then again I think only a real man can buy a Skoda and keep his head held high!!

That's what I've ordered, plus a few toys.

As for brand, just remind them how much more cash you have in your pocket compared to the equivelent VW or Audi.

I chose a 1,8 TSI over the vRS as I don't really need the out & out power of vRS, also the fuel economy is not brilliant, so I chose the Elegance trim with DSG box.

So what did you choose for your specification then?

Just the metallic Anthracite Grey, Maxidot and Spare wheel. To be honest the Elegance has so much more kit than my LX spec C-Max I did not need anything more.

I maybe should have gone for Curtain Airbags, and TPS for safety's sake but where do you stop?

Have I missed any "must have" options, just out of interest?

I think ESP is a must + Xenon headlights as well, also Heated Seats for those bitterly cold mornings or days.

Mine's got (deep breath!)

Sports Suspension

Heated Seats

Multifunction Steering Wheel & Maxidot.

MDI & Ipod cable

ESP

Xenon headlights

Tyre Pressure Monitor

Light Assistant.

All wrapped in Storm Blue paint!

Wow you must have no self control, there can't have been much left to add.

ESP - yes a worthwhile option, decided against the multifunction wheel as my wife thought she would not use them and the stereo looks like a cool gadget i will want to do all my adjustments on there. Who needs more than one hand to drive a car with anyway!

I've got a 1.8TSI & after 13 months/29,000km I still think it was the right choice for me.

Fuel economy is outstanding & it has enough torque to keep things interesting.

The choice of a 1.8TSI is a head choice rather than a heart choice (over a 2.0TSI vRS).

Possibly the handling of the Elegance could be a bit sharper but I got onto a good deal on GTI sway bars (AUD10 for front & rear) & didn't follow it through because the handling isn't "woeful". I also could get a set of factory 17" rims with 10% worn CSC2s for AUD800 but again, the standard fit does the job 95% of the time.

What level of economy are you getting and what type of driving is that in?

The Octy is our #2 car and I use it for my daily commute - we take swmbos company car on most long trips.

My daily commute is normally 8km of suburbs to the motorway on-ramp - that takes 15 minutes. Then 38km of 80kmh-110kmh motorway which takes another 30mins. Reverse for the afternoon but slower. It also gets a few brisk runs on some of the B-roads that I have to travel for work. So 15% suburbs; 10% B-roads & 75% motorways.

The car has just done the 500hr rollover and is averaging 6.7L/100km for the 29,000km. This doesn't tell the full story.

For the first 5000km it was getting 7.0-7.4L/100.

From 5000km-15,000km it got 6.6-7.0L/100km

From the 15,000km service the oil was changed to Castrol Edge Sport 5w30 and it's been getting 6.3-6.7 ever since (I hadn't noticed that trend until I looked at the figures just now).

Generally I use Shell V-Power 98ron but occasionally I'll buy Mobil Synergy98 or BP Ultimate98. The Shell definately gives a slight economy improvement.

You've absolutely made the right decision. I've been driving a 1.8TSi for the last 35kkm and I was never sorry over that decision even for a moment. I've been writing about it and the consumption a few times already. Pls use search if you're interested.

And don't worry about the ESP - if you're not going to drive it on the "edge", then you've got nothing to worry about.

Welcome to the club and let that 8-10 weeks be as short as possible...

Congratulation with the new car!

I'm wondering how long did it take from ordering to delivering and do you know if it had to be produced or was it in stock?

I order mine the 31 july and I'll get it about 13 november. Can't stand waiting so long.

Don't know the delivery date yet, I should find that out later this week. The dealer said it would be November now. I don't think there are any cars in stock, all are factory order now I believe.

Mines is due in September, go the reg and the letter requesting an insurance certificate, but as I haven't arranged a date to pick it up, am a little stuck.

Hi

In the same boat! Just ordered 1.8 TSI Elegance - added bigger wheels and sports suspension, flappy paddle 3 spoke wheel and lights assistance

I spent weeks looking at different cars could have gone for a Golf GT 1.4 or GTD 2.0, middle of range Passats or Toyota Avensis (its a company car) but if I had added everything you get with Skoda I would have to make a PUC (purchaser user contribution) and as I have an Audi A3 3.2 S-line Quattro as my 'own' car could not see the point.

I know the Skoda (VW) has a very good engine and I hope it will be exciting to drive, obviously I am hop'in between a 4 wheel drive 250 bhp pocket rocket which is probably one of the best cars I have ever driven to the new skoda (delivery mid Nov) so I will have to resist too much comparison but still want it to be a good (and fun) work horse.

I will report back when it arrives and try to give my impression's But I must say having driven all the cars on my list the Skoda build quality and interior where by far the best, without being rude it felt like an Audi, but... I too have had to ignore my heart on one level - I wish it was not called a Skoda - I will have to always say in the office, know matter how good it is, my other cars an Audi or it seems other people have to defend it by saying "yes but its a Golf underneath!".

And it's already started "you chosen a SKODA why?" And even a collegue who has an Octavia has to say "yes but I have a VRS" and my boss who signed it off said you choosen a Czech Tractor then! Even my wife said could I take the badges off!

But I do refer them to Clarksons Top Gear site where it more or less say's to buy a car with such an uncool name and not worry about it - is itself actually very cool

I notice Bluefin (superchips)have the 1.8 on their web site - it ups it to just over 200Bhp (now its starting to get exciting) but obviously as a co car that would get me in very hot water - but anyone done it?

All the best

Dobbers, why fiddle with a brand new car?

Leave it a while get used to it first, the 1,8 from the specs I've seen isn't exactly a slow car & besides with all of the speed cameras etc about is there any real point in altering a car so it can do 155+mph, also you need to think of fuel, it goes up another 2ppl tonight! :orb_mad:

Unless of course you're a millionaire in disguise!

Seriously contemplating Bluefin after 12 months ownership. Had a couple of instances last week where there just wasn't enough power to get the job done.

Strong AUD against the GBP (2:1 instead of the more usual 2.3:1 makes the Bluefin good value.
