I tried to open the boot this morning to get the ould golf clubs out for a round, and it won't open!

I tried the fob key, and I tried opening it manually with the key. I tried the boot button on the driver's door and it still won't open.

I can hear the mechanism clicking, but nothing happens. Is there a way to open the boot manually?

If you use the key in the boot lock to open the boot, there is a direct mechanical link to the latch via a bowden cable. If this does not work there is almost certainly a problem with the cable or the latch assembly.

One of the very few faults I've had with my Superb was a failure of the boot to open electrically (by any method) although you could hear the actuator trying. After removing the boot lid inside trim (screws in the "triangle" housing and very stiff clips around the edge) it became evident that the pivot for the release lever on the latch (where the bowden attaches) was too stiff.

A drop of oil at this point has fixed the problem which has not recurred.

VAG seem to be rather good at making their rivetted pivots too stiff (boot hinges anyone?). I suspect they bump them too hard on assembly.

Correction: The trim securing screws are in the "handholds".

Try turning the lock in the drivers door a few times.
