Brake lights

Featured Replies

Hi all

My cars battery was dead this morning so i plugged in my start n charge, then i noticed the brake light had come on. A wiggle of the pedal and they went off, so hopefully it was just stuck, but should the brake lights still work without the key in the ignition?

Thanks Adrian

Ps its a 1.9 Tdi

Yep they should - they do on most cars. Sounds like you may have a sticky brake light switch - mine packed in completely a while ago. Got a new (revised) part from the dealer - thing it was between £6 and £7 from memory, it was an easy swap.

Other points diagnostic of brake switch failure are loss of all 3 brake lights, and ASR warning light illuminating permanently.
