RS Cruise control upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi

i have a 51plate 2002 spec RS octavia. I was told to replace the stalk as the ecu has the the stuff in it ready to work, will it do the job?

I think you need a loom and you will need it coded into the ecu.

Im sure i've seen one of the sponsors here do an upgrade kit for about £185

Or PM VRStu

Hi,

Unit18 also do them. think about £180 all in.

The prices being quoted are stupidly high, I bought geniune VW cruise stalks and required wiring for less than £75. Fitting was easy, it simply plugged in on the new stalk and I had to add the pins in at the ECU end.

Stupidly high if you can do it yourself, but what if you can't, then you have too pay someone who will charge you for doing it. That person/s will charge for their time. It's not exactly a two minute job is it.

Dean225 makes it sound simpler than it is. I don't see it as a difficult job myself, but here is a quick rundown of what's involved

Remove airbag

Remove steering wheel

Remove steering trim

Remove slip ring

Remove old stalk

Fit new stalk and route additional cable.

Remove lower dash panels.

Release relay boards and fusebox

Remove windscreen wiper arms

Remove plenum cover

Remove windscreen wiper assembly

Next items depends what loom(s) you have.

Release connector so it is accessible from under dash. Connect stalk loom to connector and fuse holder in fusebox.

Connect loom into ECU plug.

Refit everything.

Enable cruise using VCDS/VAS

You need a 12mm Spline bit for the steering wheel bolt.

you can get the kit for 65 quid
