abs/traction control unit gone , advice needed please

Featured Replies

just came back from the dealers who told me my abs/esp control unit isnt working and the bill will be something like £1300 fitted for a new one,

I asked about asking skoda if they could do something about it, the car is 9 months out of warranty, but with only 29k miles, with full skoda history,

service guy said he will ask next week and get back to me,

surely the part should last longer than this,

anyone else had this happen to them?

what to do next?

I simply havent got £1300 :(

car is a mk2 55 plate vrs petrol,

cheers

mike

They can often repair the control unit or supply a recon. If you go down the repair route, you can still drive the car (carefully) whilst the unit is away.

Under the Sale of Goods Act, retailers are responsible for faulty goods (that are not 'of satisfactory quality') for up to six years after you bought them. A 'reasonable' lifetime for different products is not defined in law and would ultimately be for a court to decide - but I would think that a critical safety system on a car should last at least 5 years.

If it were me then I'd be tempted to risk the small amount of money involved in making a Small Claims Court claim against the dealer and seeing what happens......;)

cheers both,

I spoke to someone to someone today who had the same problem on a vw golf that was out of warranty (6 months), and vw paid for the repair in full, so I'll see what skoda comes up with,

I really do love the car, I just hope I dont lose faith in it :)

Its probably the same part/part no,

might be worth a try :)
