How to disconnect the MAF

Featured Replies

The Octavia is running a little poor on tickover and the Traction Control light comes on every now and again which I believe could be MAF. I would like to disconnect it to see if it sorts the problem.

My question is, where is the MAF? and if its disconnected what effect does it have?

I did try searching this subject but all search returns me is:

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

In this pic - the MAF is the thing on the left of the airbox - leading into the blue intake pipe on my engine! Unplug the plug sticking out of the top. It has little clips you need to push in to unplug.

You can see the MAF itself more clearly here:

Between my blue connectors! :D

If you want to disconnect it just squeeze the clip it is quite tight on there! If you want to take it out the housing, dont it has tamper proof torx screws in which are annoying to get out.

It is sold as a complete unit with housing and you have to give them your old one (vag dealer) about 60 quid i think

If you disconnect it and the car runs the same as it did then it needs replacing.

Hope this helps

Cheers guys, so if the car runs just as it did before then it needs replacing? I thought it was the other way round and if it ran ok then it meant to MAF was faulty and needed replacing?

You're right - if it runs okay without the MAF it means it needs replacing or maybe just cleaning - which is worth a go as a first thing to try..
