How do I programme a key?

Featured Replies

I am trying to get a spare key made cheaply.

I have bought a 2 button remote key from ebay and have had a key blade cut. I can now unlock the car both with the remote and with the key but when I look on the autodata system it says you need diagnostic equipment to programme the key (or the car to the key) so i can start the car.

Any help would as always be greatly appreciated

You need to use diagnostic equipment such as VCDS, also you'll need your immobiliser log in number (SKC) for your car. If you haven't got the SKC it can be obtained through the use of VAG Tacho or a similar program. If this isn't possible, you'll have to go to a dealer who can program the key but will not see the SKC. That is providing that the transponder in your e bay key is compatible with your immobiliser.

Where are you based? I have the required equipment to do

Unless you have vagcom (or know someone with vagcom) and the skc code theres no way to do this cheaply.

As already said you need to make sure the transponder is the correct one for your car if not you can buy a new transponder for around £10.

The dealer will charge £80 upwards to do it but you can get it sorted for a lot cheaper. Contact Shark90 for a price if hes local enough to you.
