New Mk1 Octavia vRS Owner - Few questions

Featured Replies

Hi guys, picked up my Octavia vRS in black on the weekend. used to have a 1.4 rover so make a nice change! cant stop driving it atm, so comfortable and powerful :)

the car came with site stickers on it already (will post up pictures soon)

still finding my way around the car and forum so please excuse my newbness

1 - Whats the best coilovers to get? should i stay away from the £200 ones you can buy on ebay?

2- What is the best map to get and where from? car already has a cat back exhuast system and a induction kit

3-the front grill was sprayed black but the paint job wernt so good - where would i find the paintcode (car is black) and where would be the best place to get the paint from

Thats it for now :)

Many thanks in advance for replies

Welcome

Sure someone can advise on coilovers but I'd skip the £200 ebay ones.

Maps can be quite personal but Revo, AMD, spring to mind.

Some answers for you.

1 - Depends on your bugdet really. Don't go for cheap ones as they will give a bad ride. The VRS mk1 is a fussy car for suspension and not a lot of variants out there. If you want coilovers Weitec and Spax and Koni, come to mind. KW are the high end of the market for price and control of ride height. Stay away from the ebay ones.

2 - As stated this is typically a personal choice but Revo, AMD offer custom mapping.

3 - If you look in the boot and pull up the carpet you will see a sticker on the left side which will have a paint code on it. I think your code is LY9Z which is metallic panther black. But you can confirm that when you check the sticker.

Weitecs for coilovers and my vote goes to AmD. Had mine done a few weeks back, really pleasd with it so far.

cheers guys...got a starting point now :)

The colour is likeky to be Black Magic, sales code 1Z1Z, mixing code 9910, part number HFB380034 for a brush on touch up or HFB381034 for the spray. You can confirm the 9910 code from the data sticker in the boot or service book.

Weitec coilovers are a bargain from DPM at the moment, something like £390 if I remember correctly.

Get a rear anti-roll bar on there as well

As for a remap, might be worth splashing out on a downpipe and sports cat to complete your exhaust system, then you can go for a custom map which will make the most of the exhaust system and induction kit instead of just a generic remap (although generic will be cheaper). What part of the country are you from? As there are different companies all over the place that members on here prefer.

Awesome do a Milltek downpipe and cat but I'm sure there are places which do them a bit cheaper

Awesome > Milltek Hi-flow Catalyst/Downpipe for 1.8T 150/180 BHP 2WD Transverse Engines

Ref the paint, quote your chassis number to a Skoda dealer.

thanks chaps

is there a guide or a write up on what performance upgrades should be done to the vRS?

i just want to get everything right first time rather then buying cheap bits and it end up costing more

There's not really a guide but just do a few searches on here and have a look at the lists of mods in peoples signatures (e.g. Bowders above) to see what other members have got.

The advised route is sort out the brakes and handling first, then exhaust and intake mods and a remap.

Or if you're eventually going to go big turbo then start thinking about stuff like 4 pot brakes, 6 speed gearbox, front mount intercooler etc.

Hi

As has been said , there are few options for the Octy vRS suspension

The Weitec`s as Chicken Eyebrow said , are on offer at the moment £339.47 + VAT the offer price is :)

They are good coilovers and the price makes it better too

Milltek is a good name when it comes to the exhaust

We sell at 10% off Milltek`s retail price and can price match if found cheaper

As many have said about the remaps , do quite a bit of research in to which one to go for

Just remember that cheapest is not always best ;)

But this is good friendly forum with lots of information , plus if you have questions , just ask
