Tyre sizes

Featured Replies

I used to have an 02 Octavia Classic SDI and still have the tyres for this which are 175/80/14 (on sale on E-Bay). My current Octavia is a 01 TDI Elegance Estate.

I thought that I would use these for during the winter time in place of the alloys, however when trying to fit them to the front they would not fit as the brake disc appeared to be too big for the 14 inch wheel.

I assumed that all the tyres for the Octavia would have been interchangable, but seems not. Can anyone enlighten me if this is the case, or perhaps the previous owner has put larger brake discs in hence they would not fit? Thanks:rolleyes:

Oops, reconsidering my reply ... didn't read the opening post properly.

Mis-read the OP

Bigger engine, bigger brakes maybe.

At a guess like:)

IIRC the SDi uses 256mm front discs, and I know the Elegance uses 280mm (Elegance has 110bhp, not 68). Add a bit for the caliper, and take a bit off for the tyre well inside the wheel, and yes you can't get a 14" rim over the 280mm disc. I think you can fit 15" rims, but that's not a lot of help unless you know someone with an SDi on 15s who'd swap with you.

Thats what I meant lol :rofl:

256mm brakes - min 14in rim (and drive real slow because you have no brakes to speak of :)

280mm/288mm brakes - min 15in rim

312mm brakes - min 16in rim
