Light assist retrofit - a few questions

Featured Replies

My car is an Octavia Combi 2.0 TDi from 2008 with rain sensor and autodimming rear view mirror.

I bought the car second hand and the original owner said the car has been coded for coming home & leaving home.

I believe this is true, as the leaving home function works and only when it's dark.

The coming home function works as well, if I manually turn on the lights and leave the light switch on. Then the lights stay on for about 30 seconds. They do this however also when it's NOT dark.

I've read about all I could find here about the light assist and so far I've narrowed it down to a need for a "real" light assist light switch, but I'm not completely sure.

So - a few questions:

- It seems I already have the purple wire in the loom behind the switch, but I'm not 100% sure, so what's the easiest way to double check this?

- Since I'm in Denmark the car is running with the lights on all time when the switch is in the off position - except dashboard illumination - so does this mean light assist does not make sense? I was hoping that if I fit the "real" light switch, I could simply leave the switch in the tunnel position and then the dashboard lights would switch on at night and switch off in the daytime while the headlights would stay on throughout the day - am I correct?

- What will happen to the coming home function - will the lights still stay on for 30 seconds in the daytime?

Regards,

Niels

Check you have a wire in pin 10 of the light switch, going to pin 14 on connector t16a (position E on the cent.electronics unit under the dash)

No worries if you havent as you can easily add one, and the new light switch as I did. Well worth it IMO, proper auto-lights along with CH/LH facility.

Thanks for your help!

I'll order the "real" light assist switch, check the wire and enjoy that I now don't have to turn on the lights manually at night :D

How much was it out of interest?

Thanks

Don't know as I haven't ordered it yet. :)

Will probably do that tomorrow and will post the price here.

Did you manage to order the switch?

Thanks

Yup, managed to order it today :)

Price - here in Denmark - was approximately £82,25 incl. VAT.

Hopefully it's the right one...

Quite a bit more than I was expecting for a light switch! I might give my local dealer a ring and see if I can get a price.

Thanks

For info, to remove the switch, push the rotating part of the switch in, and turn it clockwise, you will feel it lock and you can then just pull the switch forward. Simples. :)
