Airbag controller

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm trying to help a friend with a problem with his Octavia 2. Basically the airbag, PAS lights are lit on dash. We have carried out a fault code diagnosis on the car and it returns P1649 which i believe is related to the Airbag control unit module. Does anyone know where this is located in the vehicle?

TIA.

Can anyone advise, VRStu maybe. I'm not looking to change the controller only to help.

OK, just realised i listed the wrong fault code, its P1649. Oops!

Can you post up the relevant part of the scan?

I think it's tucked up under the dash in the middle along what is traditionally called the transmission tunnel.

The fault code was obtained by a Powertrain reader ( with Vag cartridge ) and from memory was described as a communication fault.

I'll tell him it could be under dash along the tranny tunnel. That sounds like a lot of stripping out may be required.

Thanks for your help.

Haven't got a clue! :o ...but Googling P1649 either comes back to a mail order diamond necklace (don't think it'll be this ) or loads of ABS related links... either way I've no idea about ABS, Airbags or diamond necklaces.

If it could be ABS related, might this be relevant?

If not, hey ho... at least you got a reply... consider this a free :bump: before you drop off the end of the page! :)

Yeah its related to the ABS controller, not the link you refer to thankfully.

I think I'd get it read with VCDS beforehand just incase it's a little more simple/cheaper than replacement.

Yeah i agree, that would probably be the best idea, however he's a tight wad and unfortunately i dont have a cable ( 3rd party HEX here ) that works with the 2nd Gen Octavia. Will have a look at Vag-Com map and see if there is anyone near by.

Could be money well spent in the longer term.
