Clutch change

Featured Replies

I've only just found Briskoda and joined a couple of days ago - even though I'm now on my third Octavia!

Have just had my first major problem as well.

Driving to work on Thursday, without warning as I went to change gear, the clutch pedal went down to the floor and stayed there. Managed to get off the road, pulled it back up and it began to work - intermittently, with a loud grinding noise from time to time.

Took it into our local independent VAG garage (normally very reasonable for servicing, etc.) who tell me that the cluch plate and pressure plate have "broken" and it will be £623 for repairs. OUCH!!

This sounds a bit steep, even though it is a 4x4 which no doubt involves a bit more dismantling and reassembly. Any comments?

The garage also can't say what went wrong. Again, anyone got any suggestions?
