scratch on car door

Featured Replies

Looks like some eejit has opened their car door onto mine in Sainsbo car park and managed to put a scratch on passanger door. It's not massive, but now I know it's there it's annoying me. I've read a couple of threads about some scratches can just be polished it - is it really as simple as that?! I'm also looking to get some touch up paint from local dealer as I've heard that if you apply with cocktail stick you can just fill in very small amounts. Is it worth trying out t-cut on it as well??

Any tips for a novice much appreciated.

You need to try the finger nail test, that is, if you run the back of your nail over the scratch and can't feel it, then it should be possible to polish out. Should this be the case there are really 2 options, try a product like Autoglym Super Resin Polish, this contains fillers and can be applied by hand, this should mask the scratch effectively, but over time will need re-application. The other option is to machine polish it out, look for a Detailer in your area who will do this for you.

Going back to the scratch test, if you can feel it, all is not lost. If your feeling brave you can clean out the sracth apply some touch up paint, leave it for 24 hours then wet sand it back using 2500 - 3000 grit wet and dry (be very careful). Then polish the area back to a shine.

For real professional guidance on the procedures I would recommend visiting Detailing world, link attached...........

Alternatively you could PM Baker21 he is Briskoda's resident Detailer.

Get some Megs Scratch X and a microfibre pad. Try to polish it out, you can try and apply a tiny amount of paint and then, once dry, polish again. Your aiming to "hide" the scratch not remove it, you can't add paint if you polish too much!

The cars colour is important. In my experience it is easier to touch in black or dark cars. No chance with Silver!. Mine is Silver & I have a scratch close to door handle. Near impossible to hide it..

Mine is race blue.

We've been here before. Try Brasso wadding - often works like magic.
