Cleaning up my Allard FMIC....

Featured Replies

Well - Decided this morning as the weather was good I would attack my intercooler, which given my car is off the road for so long, is an opportunity not to miss. Have completed the first stage now. Method of attack was a couple of coverings and agitations of raceglaze alubright, and the aim this afternoon is to use autosol to polish it up a bit nicer.

Sadly I don't think the fins are going to be able to come up 100% again, but they do look better. Here's some pics of progress.

What I was faced with. 5 years odd of built up gunk/corrosion

First soaking with alubright & a good scrubbing did help. It was left a while.

then rinsed with a hose whilst agitating further still. Was definitely improving

Gave the reverse a going over once. Although not too bothered as no-one sees the back. It's just to help longevity of the cooler.

The front again, after another going over

and how I've left it drying in the sun before I try the autosol this afternoon.

OK - Got it to a standard now I'm happy to refit it. It's been through a lot and is covered in pits from stone chips from around 70,000+ miles. Here's the final four shots

This was what the main face looked like before I attacked it.

Did the opposing smaller edge.

This is how it's going back on my car now.

I'm just not sure now whether to lacquer it, perhaps just do the sides and the top?

Just a thought but how clean is the inside ...would it be worth flushing that out as well?

It looked OK peering down each tube, so just concentrated on the visual appearance. :)

Definitely flush it all out, brake cleaner is ideal :)

Looks much better though Jason.

You can of course paint it with silver paint (or black ;)) if you so desire.
