Noisy aircon (VRS)

Featured Replies

Had the vRS for a couple of months now and I'm really liking it, reminds me of the old mk4 Golf!! I can't resist and a few mods are in the pipeline!!

Recently however the aircon has developed a noise. The wife describes it as sounding like the Tardis. If you switch it to econ mode it goes away. Any idea what it is or how to fix it. It's still covered by the used car warrenty but I don't to get fobbed off by the service boys at the local dealer.

Thanks in advance

More than likely refrigerant passing through its metering device behind the dash, sometimes associated with a gas shortage in the system. You should hardly hear it when it has the correct amount of R134a in it.

I would get the charge checked out.

OK, it's been in today and they have diagnosed knackered compressor bearings. Luckily it's covered under the warrenty.

Anyone else had these kind of problems?

Octavia compressors seem to be generally unreliable, especially the Zexel ones.

Is this a problem throughout the VAG group? I've not heard of any problems with compressors before this.
