Help can't close boot!

Featured Replies

Hi

I've searched but can only find boot closed. My wife's boot will not shut properly. Has anyone an idea as to what I can do? Can the lock be in the closed position? If so how can I tell?

are the rubber bushes screwed out too far? you will find them at the corner edge of the boot lid on the inside.

On most door and boot latches, it's possible to trip the catch by accident so that it won't engage on the striker plate. You just need to flick it open again with a screwdriver. This is a very hard thing to describe but easy to see - just look very carefully at the boot catch and compare it with any of the door catches. Or it could be something's stuck in the striker plate, or something's got bent.... you may have to curl up in the boot with a torch while someone lowers the boot, and have a good look!

Also check the seal is seated correctly.

Also, if it's "crept up on you/her", it could be that the latch or striker plate needs adjusting. That's usually pretty obvious how to do once you know about it.

Sorry for the delay in reply. Only just fixed it. My mondy had to go for mot and I had to use her car with my gear in the boot. Had a really good look and noticed it was indeed the strike plate. I only noticed it had moved because the plastic fell off. Only just manages to see that it had moved. I had looked before but hadn't noticed. So it took months for a job that took less than a minute to fix. Doh.
