Chip/ Remap 'V' Tuning Modules - TDI

Featured Replies

I'm going to start the ball rolling by listing the advantages of each (i think). If you have any comments from experience or whatever, can you add an opinion.

Chip/ Remap:

Visually Undetectable

Refined

More power than Tuning boxes

Increases Turbo Boost

Tuning Module:

Less expensive

Easily fitted by anyone

Easily removed (servicing/warranty etc)

Not Permanent (selling car)

Works within engines set tolerences

Doesn't change ECU hence, doesn't increase turbo boost

Adjustable

Short and sweet please.

Cheers

Remap -

does increase the boost but not by a great deal....IIRC diesel tuning is more about fueling.

It is more expensive than a tuning box but it is also a much more skilled job.

In general all rempas are done within the engine tolerances. you have have a remap tuned to however you want it.....engines will be reliable although I agree that potential amount of reliability is reduced. You would also have to factor in the manner the way the car is driven after remap and the way it is looked after. Again generally most modded cars afre better looked after than standard ones.

Tuning Box -

cheaper than remap.....see my opinion above.

Easily removed for sevicing.....rempas done via OBD port cannot be seen by the service department although the butt dyno will know something is different.

Not permanent - you can have a custom remap changed back to standard. If you go with DMS/AmD/REVO they have switchable devices.

At the end of the days...horse for course...you pays your money etc. ;)

As long as you're happy withwhat you're getting and the result it gives then that's all that matters.
