Koni suspension, any help?

I've been given a full Koni suspension set up for my Octy, it's grubby and worn a bit so I can't tell what model it is. But am assured it's Koni. It consists of front coilovers and rear shocks and springs. The springs are red if it makes any difference.

I'm well aware pictures would more helpful but I currently don't have a digi camera available!

Maybe someone has the same set up on their car and could let me know whether it's any good or not!?

If it's the proper Koni coilover setup then it is both very good and pretty damn expensive! Definitely a good score if you got that lot for free!

You may not be very grateful then, as it may not suit your car as you may find it too stiff. The VRS is a heavier car. Also sits a lot lower.

Overall it will fit, I guess you can't grumble as it was free.

Oh, so on my application, it would sit higher than specified? Perhaps I can get some lower rated rear springs and just wind the front coils down?

On another note, how come the vrs is that much heavier? I was under the impression diesel lumps had alot more weight to them than equivilent size petrol engines? Sure the rest of the car is much the same in terms of weight?

No the suspension may sit too low. The Standard VRS is 25mm lower than the none VRS models. This means that the VRS coilovers are typically made to lower the car or keep around standard height. So in theory could lower you car even more than 25mm. The weight distribution on the VRS is heavier all round compared to the none VRS models. Don't ask me why but it is, which is why the VRS is so fussy with aftermarket suspension compared to the none VRS models.

Try it and see, as stated it will fit your car but may not be what you like. Coilovers are typically a lot firmer than standard shocks and springs set up. And going from a standard set up in your case to a VRS coilover setup could be a tad firmer than you may like.

I hope you find it ok as the Koni Coilovers are very well made peice of kit.

Many thanks for the advice. Trial and error may be the only option here then! I will let you know how it feels once it's done, hopefully this weekend. I only have standard 16" alloys so hopefully if it decides it's going to sit very low there shouldn't be much chance of rubbing.

My first car was a Vauxhall Nova which was lowered on eibach springs (i sware i'm no chav!) which incidently was rock hard, uncomfortably so! So I should have a reasonable guide by what is harsh compared to standard!

To be honest, with the adjustment that comes on the coilovers you should be able to get it all working sweetly. There isn't so much an issue using the uprated kit on a lesser car, more the lesser kit on the uprated vRS.

Yes but that is standard VRS suspension not coilovers, which are a different set up altogether.

From fitting standard VRS suspension is probably a good upgrade because it is slightly firmer shocks/springs and a ride height reduction, so would give a good overall handling upgrade.

I'll be sure to update this when it's on and i've had a bit of a drive though. Let you all know how it handles.

Only if it is bolted to a Auto box.

The overall weight of the VRS is some 30-60Kg more according to the technical manual depending on the model of diesel variant.

I remember after fitting 4 different sets of shock/spring combination to the VRS after various well known performance centres suggesting all sorts from Golf MK4 diesel estate to Octy Diesel Estate to Octy sedan various models including Eibach springs / Standard springs that all handled poo on the VRS. Ended up settling for Koni FSD's for the VRS, now have Weitec Coilovers. So kind of been through the mill with suspension.
