Finally got my stage 1 remap from DNA Tuning

Featured Replies

Took the plunge today and drove 160 miles to DNA Tuning at there new premises in Alcester near Stratford upon Avon.

My Mk1 had a DNA map on it so I knew they were quality maps, plus the fact he makes his own maps as opposed to buying them in is a big plus.

I didn't see John himself to talk to but was very well looked after by his trainee Chris who dropped me off in town while John and he did their stuff. I picked the car up later and holy cow the difference is immense!! I don't think the tyres will last long as it scrabbles for grip. The car now pulls all the way through the revs and didn't feel to drop, even at the top end.

Anyway to say I'm impressed is an understatement, I can only begin to imagine what you stage 2+ boys think to yours (uncontrollable springs to mind ).

Anyway another plus is I managed another 2.5mpg on the way back and that was full of stop start queues so well happy.

Well I have a Forge Dv hanging around but that won't gain me anything:O

Then I have the HPFP internals lying around also but I doubt that would gain me anything:rubchin: but it does look nice sat in the corner:rofl:.

Seriously, I kinda told SWMBO I wouldn't be modifying this car and I've already got the remap so I may leave it for a while.

Told you before - that's a shocking waste of those internals when I have a Stage2+ map sitting on my hard drive begging to be loaded :)

give them to timmy, com'on be a team player, lol

He can't afford them :P

how crap does std feel in comparison though. its nuts isnt it. And to think i thought it was fast when i first drove it. now when i drive them, all i can think of is that it feels absolutely flat

Yeah driving this compared to standard the difference is large. For one there was little up the top end of the rev range also torque was nothing to write home about, it really does feel like a different car.

I'm feeling the major grunt of the torque to come in a little later than it used to, is this right or just me?

Maybe its because the standard map used to level out quite quick whereas this keeps pulling?

torque will very likely be up along the entire rev range. peak torque on a k03 is normally around the 3000-3500rpm area. it all depends on how peaky your map is.

At some point I'm going to stop being tight and just buy a new one like everyone else has to :D

does anyone bother telling their insurance?

god yeah.

i have decalared everything, imagine crashing your car and then the insurance not paying out.

loss of the car and all the ££s spent.

not worth the risk imo

does anyone bother telling their insurance?

Insurance companies definitely need to be told. Anyone who tells you that a remap is undetectable is lying I'm afraid.

have you dyno'd your car to check the performance claims? as i am interested in this map but was wondering if it delivers as promised and if it is peaky or not

213 HP and 350 Nm for the 1.8 TSI ???

Isnt that a bit too much?

I think you will find nearly all tuners will give a little over optimistic claims but I have yet to get it on the Dyno.

I have to say that the car has a very strong kick when you first boot it but then it just seems to keep pulling...... I love it

It would be interesting to see what sort of MAF figures others are getting through VCDS.

As far as im aware using MAF figures to compare maps will only be comparible provided you have the same intake or stock air box really.

Not really mate, it still shows the amount of air ingested which is what matters
