Engine cover - 1.9TDi

Featured Replies

Hello

I've been modifying a Passat TDi engine cover to fit a Superb TDi... I actually thought they were the same, but they're not..

I've had to cut the left hand side off the Passat cover as the superb version doesn't have it (it fouls pipes on the superb)... That was easy enough.

The other difference I've noticed is that the Passat cover hides the alternator pulley, where as the Superb version doesn't. Again I could modify the Passat cover but I would prefer to leave it as it is to hide the alternator... Are there lightly to be any adverse affects by doing this?

The two versions should be shown below:

The alternator would greatly benefit from the open fronted cover - it's an air cooled machine with internal fans. The VW branded cover is likely to compromise alternator reliability.

rotodiesel.

EGR valve is covered on that one as well.

Thanks, in that case I will trim the front off.

Yeah, I forgot about the EGR cover. I was going to leave that there unless anyone knows a reason not to?

Can you not simply lift the badge and swap over to the existing cover?

The existing Skoda cover was cracked (thanks to a useless mechanic) so I've swapped the Skoda badge onto a VW cover I have and am modifying it to fit.
