Future Classic

Featured Replies

What do you think, will it be the Fabia vRS or the Octavia vRS (Mk1) both or none? For me it's the Fabia vRS! (well I would, I own one :P)

I can’t see either being a ‘starter classic’ as they are not ground braking in any way. Although the Furby is a good attempt at a quicker diesel. But if either of them does make it, it has to be the Furby that will be remembered. All in my humble opinion of course. :D

Don't think either will be. But if it had to be one, I'd go for the Octy, as it was the first one with vRS heritage :)

Steve

Octy might make it as the first skoda that betrayed their previous reputation, although to be fair the older ones were basic rather than rubbish.

Personally I can't see either of them making it and the furby just isn't classic material IMHO. Boring styling with nothing particularly new just doesn't turn it into a car people must have.

Both I think: the Octavia is a beautiful car but the Fabia will probably be more niche because it was the first really decent small, fast Diesel hatch.

Surely the Miura and the Dino 246 were beautiful cars. I had an Octy which I liked a lot, but it was a bit of a big clunker in the looks department imho

I think it would be the Mk1 Octy VRS

From what i can remember the rozzers hated them being stolen as the ended leaving them in the dust in the end.

Yeah but it depends what one considers classicsI suppose: I guess we are taking about popular classics: the Dino and Muira are really exotica.

I was talking about the Lamborghini and the Ferrari in reference to the Octavia is ‘beautiful’ comment. As for Classis, I am afraid having worked for a short while in a Dealership that sold Classics and what it liked to call ‘Starter Classics’ (I feel sure you can guess the quality of those :D ), I could never see the Fabia or Octy being a Classic, not by a long chalk. That’s not to say they aren’t good cars and great value for money though. Take the Lancia Delta, never a Classic in even turbo form..... until the 4x4 versions came along,:) or the Thema, not a Classic by a country mile, but the Ferrari engined version almost made it. The rear engined Skodas are much more 'a Classic' imho

Niether are classics... why would they be? Both have their respective versions in the other VAG marques, and in other marques in general, they're not unique!

Favorits are nearing classics. Getting rarer on the roads. at 10 years old I would hardly say the Fabia and Octavia are classics. another 10 years maybe?

Obviously only time will really tell. But I think the mk1 Octavia RS will be a classic in 10-20yrs. Maybe because of it's status as a police weapon, or rally star (holding funny records like highest number of valves of any WRC car and longest car!), or the fact that it was the Skoda that transformed the brand image to what it is now. All of these things give it a good chance.

Who would have thought a cruddy Rover SD1 or Ford Grenada would be a classic back in the 80's! I think they are now. But I guess that's the problem. Calling a car a classic is based on an individuals opinion.
