holding back and light on

Featured Replies

Hi all i have a 2001 octavia vrs i have had it remapped and ever since have had nothing but problems.I start the car up and sometimes it revs up and down on its own then when i pull off eventually i can put my foot down it will boost then hold back then boost again. It also keeps throwing up the light and the code is it is running to rich i have been told it could certain things so i have replaced the MAF dump valve platinum spark plugs and new coil packs. Can anyone help as this bloody car is really doing my head in and costing me alot of money for nothing i appreciate any ideas thanks alot.

The remap might be the cause, but more often than not it may just have exaggerated the problem by stressing weak lines etc. Uneven Idle is normally related to VAC line leaks? either the crank breather hoses or the thin pipe that goes to the underneath of the Inlet manifold or even the DV lines. Maybe a Throttle Body clean could help as well. Are you only getting a single code? It is usually best to start with the cheaper solutions before jumping to things like "MAF dump valve platinum spark plugs and new coil packs" and there are ways of testing them for free as well. HTH

I,m having a simular problem, mine has been re mapped as well, it will pull then like cut off and then kick in again like you say.

I,m also havin a problem when its been stood overnight, not all the power will be there, turn it off, start it again and its ok, apart from the intermitent power

I,ve had it to a garage, hooked up to a lap top and everything seems ok

Defo try the throttle body clean. Mine was lumpy and hesitant and the TB clean sorted it 100%. Got be worth a try and only cost you £1.80 for the gasket and some carb cleaner.

There's a massive thread all about his problem that's been running for years. Try searching with the error codes and loads of stuff will pop up.

What Karlbar said pretty much sums it up. It'll be a breather hose, or the TB just needs cleaning.

Check the coil packs are seated first as well as I started to get some serious problems with misfires, thought my coil packs were going. Turned out that the coil had become un-seated from the spark plug!

Check the PVC pipes under the inlet manifold look to see if there is any wet fresh oil under there is if so then there is a leak there, and check the SAI system which can be the reason for the rough start up and and rich fault code.

Mine is doing exactly the same and has been or over a year, the car hasn't ben re-mapped. My mechanic has replaced the MAF, spark plugs, one coil pack which stopped working and new hoses. The engine light always comes on at about 1000 miles. The misfire is always worse after hard acceleration or high speeds. If you tootle about under 3000 revs all day then there's no problem, on damp mornings the car will ot move unless a turn the engine on and off.

Error messages normally say running lean, sorry don't have the codes i;ll get them next time the light comes on, we have reset the codes after the coil change to see what ew messages come up.

when your car is up tp temp lightly pull up and down on the vac pipe that goes in bitween the manifold...if your engine starts to rev up and down you will need the same pipes i got from awesome gti

I serviced my car last week & replaced the fuel filter(which looked like it was the original) & cleaned out my throttle body which was filthy! car has done 120k. what a transformation!!...it runs so much smoother & all the cold running issues(revs rising & falling, hesitation etc) have all gone!
