Service cost – good deal?

Featured Replies

Hi y'all. Just booked the Octy in for it's annual service and MOT at Expert VW Audi in Waltham Cross. I used them last year and they were quick, clean and efficient so decided on them again.

I'm just wondering what people think about the price and parts, and stuff?

1. £150 for a full service incl. oil change, brake fluid change, full inspection, new spark plugs etc… They use Beru spark plugs so should I supply my own or are Beru OK?

2. I need new rear discs and pads so I thought I might as well upgrade to the vRS calipers, carriers and 256mm discs and they're charging £60 for the labour. I'm supplying all the parts and they'll trim the brake shields to accomodate the bigger discs for that price as well.

3. MOT £50ish

So I'm looking at £260 all in. Is there anything I should be checking with them e.g. spark plug gaps, what brake fluid and engine oil etc. I trust them but obviously best to go armed with as much knowledge as I can gather.

Thanks in advance

As you said Denis.

On the more general point about costs I'm not sure. I paid £150 inc Darling's Dosh @17.5% for an inspection service + brake fluid change on a diesel (so no spark plugs). OTOH I'd reckon it's only about 1 hour's labour to change the calipers and brackets when the fluid change and bleed is being done anyway, which makes the labour rate look odd.

I think he's charging £60 for hour and a half. Rear calipers are a bit trickier than fronts aren't they, with the handbrake? Plus he's got to trim and file down the shields.

Cheers Clive. I'd love to go to Unit 18 but a bit far for me really.

Anyway, I thought it was a good price, and it's run by northerners which makes me feel at home :)

Any idea on Beru spark plugs? Ta

hey buddy i dont think the spark plugs are a prob. imo spark plugs are spark plugs and they all do the same thing some are just well and truly overpriced and dont actually show any inprovement.

so imo they are just fine buddy

That's sounds prettty good. An MOT is £50 wherever you go, the cheapest basic service I've seen is £99, which means your cambelt change was just £225.

My cambelt and water pump change only cost about £300. Was your service all fluids change and spark plugs and where did you get it done if you don't mind me asking?

A good deal indeed :)

we supply ngk plugs for the vrs's, but beru are available and we've never had any complaints when these have been supplied

my sister in laws cousins garage. i think it was done for family rates but it included the full fluid change aswell and the water pump.funny thing is i put the car in at 8 o clock and the MOT is from 8:49 so it got the MOT before any work was done to the car or the service done and it passed after not having anything done on it for 2 years as i have the longlife schedule.i think thats pretty good and dont think fords or vauxhalls could do that
