glow plug light is flashing and engine management light is on

Featured Replies

hi all

im hoping someone might be able to give me a few clues since winter came in my car has be struggling to start have to give it like two trys before it turns over anyways i went to jump into the car tonight same problem this time is took a little longer when the car did turn over the glow plug light (yellow coil light) is flashing and engine management light is on solid... so im guessing something is up with it again now before i drive it over to get another diagnostics done is anything worth checking first ?

another thing it might just be me but the speedo seems to float to the speed im doing it just looks alot slower to what it normaly does maybe something to do with the lights showing on the dash

i will check the power to my battery tomorro and see what im getting i just couldnt be asked tonight

thanks for any info

its a 04 tdi 1.9 mk1

I had the same two lights on SWMBOs Fabia 1.4 TDI, turned out to be a faulty cam position sensor and gave a 16705 fault code.

This might sound like an off-the-wall question, but are the brake lights ok?

Otherwise, fault code check, glow plug draw check, battery condition check, and alternator sprague clutch check.

thanks for the ideas i will have to look into these.....

i took the car into this place to have the codes read and it came back with 17654 stroke sensor nozzle needle-g80 not a possible signal

p1246 intermittent and so the have said possible causes could be injector needle lift sensor, injector pipe defective or fuel level low !

im going to try and look and see if i can find what the codes are as they did say they where not to sure at first what that code was

anyone got anymore feedback ?

thanks jay

Which engine type is it?

ok so i check my brake lights and they are all ok.

will have to take my stuff out the boot to look for this code and get back to ya.

this morning i tried to start the car and it wont turn over battery sounds dead so i check with a meter and its showing 12.4v is it worth me getting a new battery ?

Well, if the brake lights are ok, it's not the brake light switch! (common fault)

yea i did see that on a search on the forum about the little switch fault but both lights and boot light work fine.

i can read the sticker in my boots its all dirty and worn so bad i cant even see a single letter on it. my log book says its an elegance tdi and a variant number which is SEASVX01 which might mean something to someone lol

the start of the bill is now £68.90 which was for a new battery i had to get today the old one was reading 12.3v/12.4v when you try to start the car it drops right down to almost nothing if not nothing i didnt want to keep starting the car.

so i guess its the elegance tdi with its original fault been that code

thanks for ideas

I'm guessing it's the 110bhp version of the elegance, your engine code is probably ASV then.

would it be worth me taking out this injector and having it overhaueld just when i had the car looked at i was told the fault could be on injector 3 which should have the sensor on.

i can see the cable which then goes up to the injector 3 and this black ring going around the injector which i think is the sensor. i know an new injector would be a massive amount of money too having it overhauled

The engine code is also on the sticker on the cam belt cover. It would be wise to check the wiring from the needle lift sensor.

i have done so already i can see the cable which has two wires it then runs down to a wiring loom bit. all the plugs look ok.

can you not just get a new sensor or do i have to get a new injector ?

ok so this morning i took out this injector 3 which has the sensor built onto it. bad news is i can get it overhauled. ive checked the wiring from the sensor to the plug looks ok then checked the plug section looked ok. i really need to know how many cable there should be at the plug end as i have two going into the plug and then a black one that not going anywhere looks like its just sat there i can see anything in the area that it might have connected to it. so that would be really helpful if anyone could look. i have a pic which i will try and add after this post

even tho its the glow plug light thats flashing and the code 17654 its got nothing to do with the glow plugs ?

how would i check glow plug draw and alternator sprague clutch ?

i have called skoda today and a new part is £321.61 inc vat :'( ouch

Have you considered injector cleaner? The codes you quote suggest the needle lift sensor in injector 3 is sticking.

thats what i came away with from the download i had done just the other day.

i really want to know about the cable tho that ive seen i dont think they would make a loom with an extra wire in it. in the pic below you can see that third wire that on the plug bit that goes into the needle lift sensor plug/cable. but as you can see its not going anywhere at first i didnt see it but then i saw a tiny bit of copper. the wire sheath was just below the black cable i have pulled out

ive pulled it out a little more just so i can show you. god i would hate to buy this part and it dont fix the problem.
