Bluetooth boggled

Featured Replies

I realise this one is asked a lot but I am now totally confuddled.

I am spec'ing a new octavia for my wife, she will need a proper bluetooth hands free kit and I am about to lose the plot.

The salesman has told us not to bother with the factory ones and fit a Parrot (I am not impressed).

I understand the compatability issues with the Bluetooth module that comes from Skoda with only the rSAP protocol supported (which does not supported by either of our phones).

1. So if I understand right, if I change the Bluetooth module for the apprporiate Fiscon one then it will all work hunky dorey with full functionality........ is this correct ?

2. If I plan to immediately fit a Fiscon module, do I still need to order the multi function wheel with Bluetooth to ensure that the rest of the installation / wiring is in place ?

2a I presume that the cheaper steering wheel option (4 spoke multi-function steering wheel for radio and Maxi-dot at £195.65) won't cut it and I need the full one (4 spoke multi-function steering wheel for radio

and telephone with Bluetooth® and Maxi-dot at £460.87)

Please can someone unconfuse me, I really don't want to get this wrong, or end up with a lovely new car and have to then screw something to the dash to work a phone.

Finally, Can I simply fit an aftermarket or used Columbus (or VW RNS-510 for that matter) unit and get it to work and fully integrate immediately ?? I only as as it looks to be a great setup but OMG is it expensive from Skoda.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Dunno about the BT Jim but, depending upon your cars spec, the Columbus would most probably need coding to ensure full compatibility.

Thanks for that John, kinda what I suspected.

As for the Bluetooth, the Sales people at my local Skoda Dealer don't know either.................... would never of thought it would be this tricy.

Well I appear to have educated my local dealer, new car ordered with the Bluetooth kit / microphone installed and I will swap it out for a Fiscon unit after delivery.

What a nonsense that the dealers don't know...... in fact the Dealer was interested to hear wxactly what the problem is and how to get round it.

I was just investigating the Fiscon unit - their site reports that the factory fit microphone can't be used by the Fiscon kit and their supplied microphone must be used.

Does anyone have anything to prove otherwise?

Hmmm, I didn't see that... bit of a pain to have to swap and re-route cables,.............. Mat can you keep me advised if you confirm or otherwise ?

Kufatec's page at http://www.fiscon-mobile.com/products/mic.php shows how they recommend installing their microphone to look factory fit.

I am planning to fit the RNS510 and fiscon blue tooth kit after delivery at a substantial discount. There doesn't seem to be any benefit in getting the factory fitted bluetooth for that purpose but I would love to know whether the much discussed problems with the factory bluetooth have been solved i.e. that it can now work with all phones and not just a small sample of mostly nokia phones. If the factory fit kit can now work properly I would change my order and get it.

Slightly off topic, but my wife just got a new Fiat and their Blue&Me seems to be a great system, and is very simple to set up and operate, surely with all the R&D resources available to VW they could come up with a similar system? lets hope so before my new car is due next March!!

cheers

Why fit a fiscon when you are having factory fit? Most phones have RSAP now or you can get them to work and the new one has legacy support now iirc. I thought you could only get the MFSW with DSG?

I have bluetooth and MFSW. The RNS-510 is plug and play. The only thing that wont work is the navi display in the maxidot but i never used it in my old car so im not bothered about that. If you are a simple coding is all that is needed with VCDS.

oops just noticed that this OP is from Jan! Thread revival!! Anyway good for info. If you have a FL octavia the 3t0 nav out the superb is the correct one.
